Essex Federation Events
The Essex Federation organise two Saturday events in the Autumn and Spring at the Feering Community Centre (click here for a map). Three courses run throughout the day on a variety of topics. In addition we have arrranged a "one-off" event in Basildon in September 2010.

Whether you want a convenient introduction to the WEA or just want to meet up with old friends in a convivial atmosphere, these events are ideal for you.

Course Title: ONE DAY COURSE - Gardens of Essex and WEA Gardeners' Question Time!
Course Description: Morning session - an illustrated talk about the origins, development, content and layout of some of magnificent gardens of Essex by a leading horticulturalist and television personality.  Afternoon session - GQT - a chance to ask her questions and seek advice about your own garden.

Course Title: ONE DAY COURSE - Great American Literature: Mark Twain and Walt Whitman
Course Description: 100 years after the death of Mark Twain, Ron Marks explores some of his work, in particular the irony, social criticism and pioneering narrative techniques of Huckleberry Finn.  Tina Nay introduces and discusses some of the poetry of Walt Whitman and one or two other significant 19th Century Americans.

Course Title: ONE DAY COURSE - A Fresh Look at the Anglo-Saxons
Course Description: This study day will include discussion of the latest on the Staffordshire Hoard and its implications, setting it in its context, as well as some examination in detail of its metalwork, technology of manufacture and dating. There may also be some examination of attitudes to metal-detecting and the way such finds are treated in the media.
